Our passion is helping the children of Princeton, New Jersey learn how to best take care of their teeth and be there to fix any problems that may arise. At Montgomery Pediatric Dentistry, we dedicate time to help teach your children about preventive dentistry and what they can do at home to maintain oral health.
In our office, we offer preventative treatments that can help decrease the risk of your child forming a cavity, one treatment we perform is a dental sealant.
What is a Sealant?
A dental sealant is a dental resin material that is bonded on the chewing surfaces of your child’s adult far back teeth, that can help block cavities. Once the back molars have erupted, it is easy for food to accumulate and not be properly removed by the patient because it is a “hard to reach” area.
To prevent cavities from forming, right as the new teeth are in, we suggest our patients receive the sealant. In this process, the tooth being sealed is cleaned and dried in preparation for the sealant. A special resin is then placed into the deep pits and fissures of the tooth and then hardened and cured by a light that will bond it to the teeth.
After the material is bonded to the tooth, the chewing surface will feel smooth. Once placed, a dental sealant can protect your tooth for a long period. Over time sealants may tend to fall off and will need replacement.
Benefits of a Sealant
Pits and fissures of our back teeth are the most susceptible to accumulate decay, with the sealant food and decay can’t reach those parts
Sealants aren’t just meant for brand new erupted teeth, you can receive a sealant at any age to prevent cavities
Protecting from cavities makes it so that future possible severe restorative procedures won’t be needed
Having a sealant is an excellent way to fight cavities and we suggest it for any one of our patients at Montgomery Pediatric Dentistry. If you are in Princeton, New Jersey, and would like to obtain a sealant, please come in to see us or give us a call!
